Episode 10 : Faith or Fear | Part 2
Bob and Jake continue the series on faith or fear and discuss seven deadly wounds and their impact on our lives. We have dynamics in our hearts that are below the surface and, although they are unseen, impact our peace, love, and joy.
Show Notes
Guiding Scripture
“I was afraid because I was naked so I hid” (Gen 3:10)
Key Points
Fear is often the face of our woundedness
Our fears are often learned from the wounds we have suffered in life
We can ask ourselves when we have experienced something before to help pinpoint the wound that is affecting us
The seven deadly wounds are abandonment, fear, rejection, shame, powerlessness, hopelessness, confusion
Using the analogies of a tree and river can help us understand how the dynamics of wounds affect our current lives
We can have dynamics that are at the level of the heart that, although unseen, are still very important
The heart, not just behaviour, is critical to address in the healing process
It’s important to go to counselling sooner rather than later
Healing often happens when we receive from God or someone else the opposite of we were wounded
Our negative inner vows are the compensations for our wounds and fears that then create the false self
Practical Application
For one day pay attention to what you fear. Then spend time with the Father asking Him to show you how the fear connects to your woundedness. Invite Jesus into every fear and every wound.
When you are in a current distressing situation, with the help of the Holy Spirit, ask yourself, “When have I felt like this before?” Invite Jesus into any memories that arise.
Review the seven deadly wounds. Which one(s) do you think God is trying to address right now in your life?
What would it be like if your heart actually desired what was good for you and others instead of you continually making a difficult choice for the good?
What’s a substitute security you go to when your wounds/fears are triggered? How are you hoping it will help you?
