Show Notes

Guiding Scripture

“God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (Gen 1:27)

Key Points

  •  Woman reveals a different and important aspect of God’s heart

  • The Hebrew word for woman used in Gen 1:27 is “n’qebah” and it literally means “open”

  • We see in Mary, Jesus’ mother, what God intended for female

  • Woman as an icon helps us see God more clearly

  • Christian art doesn’t depict Our Lady with a sword, because she defeats the enemy with her yes to the Lord

  • Women are assaulted in their vulnerability

  • If you want to see what is most holy, look at that which is most violently profaned

  • Women can struggle with a double bind of feeling like they are too much and not enough at the same time

  • Women seem to often be wounded in and through relationships

  • In their woundedness women can overcompensate and undercompensate

  • A deep wound for women can be abandonment and then doubt about life and relationships

  • Jesus receives the heart of a woman and offers her safety and mirrors back her original design

  • Mother Church is a real and powerful way we experience healing

  • Women often experience healing when they are seen, understood, and honoured

  • Women need safety to fully express their vulnerability

  • Women can experience healing when they are given a place to bring life and beauty; we need to open doors for women to be themselves and bring life

Practical Application

  • Where can I open the door for a woman to be who they were designed to be?

  • Over the next 24 hours, pay attention to the women that you are around who are open and vulnerable and notice what you experience.  Pay attention to the women you are around who have closed off for whatever reason and notice what you experience. Just make a study of your own heart.
