“Let my lover come to his garden and eat its fruits of choicest yields.” - Song of Songs 4:
Key Points
Sexual intimacy is intentionally last in the series since it is only possible when the other four areas of unity act as a strong foundation (Spiritual, Emotional, Companionship, Teamwork)
Our culture reverses the order of intimacy: we begin with sexual intimacy rather than the other four areas of unity. Sadly, our relationships can die when they don’t have a proper foundation.
Both men and women struggle with pornography, and there is usually a lot underlying that. Addiction often isn’t the issue, it’s the thing we go to deal with the issue.
The combination of holy desire (eros) and self-gift (agape) produces holy sex.
The Holy Spirit can bring healing in and through the sexually intimate aspects of marriage.
High vulnerability, high care creates a healing, intimate environment.
The Holy Spirit is not an intruder in your bedroom. He’s already there, dwelling in you.
Practical Application
Learn docility to the Holy Spirit. It will help with sexual intimacy as well as your overall spiritual life.
Commit to building the other four areas of intimacy: spiritual, emotional, companionship and teamwork
Take a moment to pray with your spouse before love-making.
